At the beginning of a movie called The
Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl, which I watched for the first time years
ago with childish enthusiasm and fascination for the low-functioning cardboard
3D glasses, is a quote that reads: “anything that ever was, began with a
dream.” That was the first time I realized how powerful one mind could be. All
it takes to create something great, something timeless, is a single idea. An
inkling.
I’m an artist. More specifically, I’m a
writer. I’d like to say my short stories, essays, and novels are the zenith of
my potential, but truthfully, my best writing comes to me in bits and pieces,
in miniature lightning strikes of pure prose and poetry that I often scribble
down in a book and keep for myself. A part of me enamored this originality.
However, I often wondered what other unofficial secret scriptures existed out
there, scribbled down in little books hidden in the back of drawers and book bags.
Someone, I thought, should search for them.
I decided to do what I do best, not just
for myself, but for all the other rejects and rebels and unrecognized
revolutionaries in the world. I would publish a magazine for them. And so, Rebel
Chronicles was
conceived to
inspire artists from writers to photographers to painters to create and
embrace their passions.
This could not have happened
without the help and dedication of the Rebel staff which, despite the struggle,
pushed through with me against the odds. That is, of course, what Rebel Chronicles is all about.
